One thing that Ubud known world wide is Ubud painting style. This specific Ubud painting style has attracted foreign painters since 1930-s. the role of foreign painters on Ubud painting has so important, to mention the points are, keeping the spirit of Ubud painting while developing dimensional effects, secondly promoting Ubud style abroad through exhibition, and coordinating local artists not only these from Ubud but from other part of Bali, not only on Ubud painting, but including carvings. The role of anthropologists in publishing Ubud as the colony of artists has been so great also by publishing writing about Ubud and Bali in general. Ubud and Mas were 2 areas separated by only around 3 kms. Mas in 1970s was a village, while Ubud hade been a small town as the place of Ubud king palace. Both Ubud and Mas have been attracting visitor. The king of Ubud gave the chance for Ubud town to develop by first constructing first hotel on the slope of Campuhan river, which is now hotel Campuhan. Starting from development of Campuhan area development of guest houses and Ubud hotels later reached various places on Ubud area. Some local people even changed their houses into guest house, which was at the beginning offered with free to the visitor or later artist that wanted to stay long in Ubud. Starting 1980s Ubud, like Kuta and Sanur, as if it was invaded by hotels. The most suffering area of Ubud because of Ubud hotels invasion are along the east slope of Ayung river, the rice field south of Sangigungan village, and along the slope of Oos river. Today Ubud has even bigger number of hotels compared to Sanur. Everywhere on Ubud hotels was built from simple Ubud hotels, medium Ubud hotels luxurious Ubud hotels and Ubud villas. Based on Ubud hotels area, there are 3 places have become selected to build hotels. First is Ubud hotels in the city, second is Ubud hotels in Kedewatan, third is Ubud hotels in Pejeng area. Along Ayung river slope it even extends beyond Ubud border up to Payangan area where are luxurious hotels hiding from daily sight. Besides those Ubud hotels listed above there many small and simples Ubud hotels around Ubud city. Most Ubud hotels called themselves as "Resort ", although in total they might have only small resort requirement, beside the prices of hotels in Ubud is higher than other places in Bali.

Ubud itself like a museum, every where are art Galleries, studios and private art collectors. Pita Maha is the first foundation in Ubud to organized in painting and carving artist in an association. The foundation has born Ratna Warta Museum, the older fine art museum in Ubud. The curator the museum is the king of Ubud Tjokorda Gede Soekawati, and the opening was attended by the minister of culture and education of the Republic of Indonesia. They have of collection of Neka Museum : This is the second museum in Ubud, owned by Sutedja Neka an Ubud resident. The museum is located around 500 meters to the north of Ubud bridge in Campuhan. They have collection of various painting, but mainly Ubud style, and Batuan style painting. Agung Rai Fine Art Museum : The latest and biggest museum, located in southern Ubud, owned by Anak Agung Rai, an Ubud resident. Exhibitions are various paintings not only Ubud style, but there are some works of other Indonesian artist's even foreign artists of a different style. The curator of the museum also organize some art activities can be joined by the guests.

The first village have developed wood carving was actually Sumampan village, belong to Sukawati Kecamatan area, Just the location is close to Ubud. It was soon developed in Mas village. Carving for Balinese was at the beginning a kind of religious dedication, so everywhere in Bali there are always one or, two carvers can be found. Sumampan village : known for their fine black ebony wood carving using the figures of Ramayana, Mahabharata or myth. Tengkulak village : Animal carving such as ducks, chicken and others.
Bitra village : Known for their fish carvings, frogs.Tegalalang : known for their plantation carving from flowers up to a complete trees, bananas trees and others.Nyuh Kuning village : Known for their flexible carving figures which design were carving from other culture such as Mexican arts, and others. The fact that in Mas has mixed carving style which is today mostly shops, and carvers moved to Mas village for temporary working at various shops and carvings art productions.
